Ella was the third of five children born to Carl and Mary (Ahle) Blaue. Ella lived on a farm with her parents and three brothers. One brother died before she was born. When Ella was not quite eight, her father died. Five years later, Ella's mother married, Louis Panhorst, a widower with five children.
On April 20, 1913, Ella married Oscar Brauks. Together they farmed and raised four children:
Raymond Brauks,
Laura Brauks Meyer,
Elmer Brauks and
Lorrene Brauks.
Ella and Oscar had been married 38 years when Oscar died on October 1, 1951 at the age of 61. He was buried in the Ebenezer Stone Church Cemetery.
Ella died August 4, 1967, at the age of 74. She was buried with her husband.
