Dr. Kehler Passes Away Wednesday

Dr. C.F. Kehler who went to the Nebraska Sanitarium at Hastings some two weeks ago for x-ray examinations and treatment, passed away Wednesday morning at 2 o’clock after his case had been given up as hopeless. He had been in failing health the past two years and during the last six months his condition became critical and a good portion of the time he was confined to his room.

In the passing of Dr. Kehler we lose one of our early settlers and one who was closely associated with the business interests of Bladen since its organization in ‘86. He was practicing in the old town of Wells one mile west and after the Burlington built the railroad moved with the other inhabitants to the present site where the town of Bladen was started. Dr. Kehler and V.S. Hall were the only two surviving business men who have lived in Bladen since its birth, Mr. Hall being the only surviving resident.

The remains arrived on the evening train Wednesday and funeral services will be conducted from the M.E. Church this afternoon at 2:00 o’clock and interment will take place at Harmony cemetery.

The many friends of the bereaved family feel keenly the loss that has come to us in the passing of Dr. Kehler and extend condolence in their hour of sore bereavement.

Dr. Charles F. Kehler

Dr Charles Frederick Vale Kehler was born at Block House, Tioga county, PA, Oct, 26, 1854 and passed on at the Nebraska Sanitarium at Hastings, NE, June 13, 1923, at the age of 68 years, 7 months and 18 days.

Choosing the medical profession as his life work he attended Creighton Medical College, Keokuk IA, and graduated from that institution Febr. 28, 1882.

He was married to Miss Emma Henrich at Minden, NE, Febr. 6, 1884, and to that union six children were born, five girls and one son, the latter dying in infancy.

After graduating from Creighton College he practiced medicine at Blue Hill and Riverton, NE, later moving to the inland town of Wells one mile west of the present town of Bladen. When the Burlington was built in 1886 and the town of Bladen was established he moved his office to Bladen where he practiced continually until a few months previous to his last illness.

In the prime of his manhood he was a man of appearance and possessed many likable qualities that won for him many warm friends. In his profession he was honest conscientious and ever had the interest of his patient at heart. In all kinds of weather and regardless of the financial condition of his patients he gave the best that was in him. He was a kind and indulgent father, neighbor and friend who will be missed in the community and the many friends of the family mourn with them his passing.

He leaves to mourn his departure five daughter, Mrs. Robert Boyd, Mrs. Wm. Chapman, Mrs. Fred Alexander and Miss Clara Kehler of Bladen, NE, Mrs. J.F. Smith, of Laramie, WY, and three sisters, Mrs. John Covalt and Mrs. Gal Ruby of Broadwater, NE, Mrs. Clara Scott, Billings, MT, and a host of friends.

Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church Friday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock in charge of Rev. Spoar of Cowles, and interment was made beside his wife in Harmony cemetery, who preceded him in 1905.
