Bladen News

Mrs. Florence May (Kehler) Boyd, eldest daughter of Dr. Charles and Emma A. (Henrich) Kehler, was born June 20, 1888, at Bladen, Nebraska, and died August 15, 1947, at her home in Bladen, at the age of 59 years, 1 month and 25 days. Her death was following a long illness.

Mrs. Boyd's birth was the first in the town of Bladen. Her father was the town's first physician. Death of her mother in the year 1905 placed Mrs. Boyd, while yet a teen-age girl, in the position of homemaker for her father and her four younger sisters. This responsibility she bore courageously and admirably. Her father died in 1922.

In her younger years she was a faithful attendant of the First Baptist church. Her schooling was received in the Bladen schools and she was a member of the class, which graduated in 1904.

She was united in marriage with J. Robert Boyd, at Red Cloud, Nebraska, on April 7, 1908. To them were born three children, one daughter and two sons. The infant daughter, Collette, was a victim of death in 1909. The sons, Winston R. and H. Byron, and the husband, J. Robert Boyd, all of Bladen survive her.

Residence of Mrs. Boyd was in or near; the town of her birth all of her lifetime, with the exception of one year when the family lived at Pine Bluffs, Wyoming.

Reserved and graceful in manner, and kindly and sympathetic in disposion. Mrs. Boyd was a wife, mother and grandmother of remarkable quality. Though possessing a keen interest in all affairs vital to the community, she was distinctly a homemaker, and for her family and home she gave unlimited and unselfish service.

In addition to the sorrowing husband and sons, relatives left to mourn her passing are three grandson, two daughter-in-law, Mrs. Winston Boyd and Mrs. Byron Boyd, Dick, Jimmie and Ronnie Boyd; three sisters, Mrs. Era Smith of Derby Colorado, Mrs. Fay Chapman of Bladen, and Mrs. Ida Alexander of Hastings; nine nieces and ten nephews. A sister, Mrs. Clara Dambach, passed away in 1932. Many friends, gained throughout her lifetime in the community, are also among the grieved.

Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church in Bladen at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday with Rev. R.E. Martin and Rev. N.A. Pritchard in charge. A quartette composed of Mr. & Mrs. Fred Morey and Mr. & Mrs. F.B. Householder sang three old hymns with Mrs. J.A. Dennis accompanying. Flower bearers were Mrs. Harry Robinson, Mrs. Floyd McMahon, Mrs. Millard Marymee and Mrs. A.M. Ray. Pallbearers were I.R. Andrews, Fred Ruschke, Millard Marymee, Lyle Kile, Shannon Jones and J.A. Dennis. Interment was in Plainview Cemetery.
