Levi Bear, a widely respected citizen, died at his home, S. Potomac St., yesterday afternoon of heart trouble, following a long illness. He would have been 59 years of age on Thursday. He was a son of John and Elizabeth Bear, and was born near Huyett's, this county, on May 4, 1852. Mr. Bear was a farmer for a number of years. Later he was appointed superintendent at Bellevue and served for four years. He afterward farmed for one year but was obliged to give up this occupation on account of bad health. He then moved to Hagerstown and conducted a livery stable in the Old Baldwin House stable. In 18_7 he was elected judge of the Orphans' Court by a handsome majority.

The death of Mr. Bear was rather unexpected. He was able to attend to his duties until seven weeks ago. Since that time he was able to sit up during the day but was very feeble.

Judge Bear is survived by a wife and two daughters--Mrs. H. D. McLaughlin and Mrs. William Strite, Hagerstown, and one son, Elmer Bear, Hagerstown. Funeral on Thursday morning, meeting at the house at 9 o'clock. Services and burial at the Broadfording church.
