Mrs. Alonzo W. Brown
Lizzie Dorland, wife of the late
Alonzo W. Brown died at the home of
her son, William D. Brown in Ithaca,
October 13th after an illness of several
weeks. She was born August 22, 1858 at Le
Grangeville and when she was a young
girl she came to Bridgewater where
she lived until her marriage to Mr.
Brown fifty-four years ago, when she
came to the Brown homeestead on
Hackley street and lived there until
July 1, 1940, when she went to Ithaca.
Mrs. Brown united with the Baptist
church of this place and was always a
faithful member and attendant. She
was a charter member of the Philathea
class and for many years was a
teachfer of the class.
She was an active member of the
Benevolent society and greatly interested
in all church work and always
ready to give help in any way.
She took much interest in the Child
Welfare society and for many years
was one of the directors. Some years
ago she was influential in organizing
a unit of the Home Bureau and was
very active in the work. Mrs. Brown
had a wide, circle of friends who will
miss her and her friendly greeting to
every one.
She is survived by one son, William
D. Brown of Ithaca, two step-sons,
Walter and Claude Brown of this
place, one grandson, Russell Brown and
four granddaughters, Betty and Janet
Brown, Ithaca, Miss Mary Brown,
Unadilla Forks and Mrs. Ella Hailston
also of this place.
Funeral services were held Wednesday
afternoon from the Baptist church
and were conducted by the Rev. Kenneth
R. Bliss, pastor of the church,
Mrs. Grace Davis sang "Shall We
Meet Beyond the River."
The bearers were the sons and
grandson. Burial was made in the
family plot in the local cemetery.
