DEATH OF WM. CAHILL
In the death of Wm. Cahill, who passed away at the family home in Janesville, on Friday, May 4th, the community and the county loses one of its early pioneers, a man who bore the burden of his day and age with fortitude and who during his entire life enjoyed the confidence and respect of his neighbors and associates.
Mr. Cahill was a native of Ireland, where he was born on January 16, 1844. His age was seventy-nine years, three months and eighteen days. When twelve years of age, he came to this country with his parents. They resided a few months in Montreal, Canada, and later spent a year or two in Chicago. In the summer of 1858 he came to Minnesota, settling first on the west side of the lake and later on the farm east of town, where he resided until nine years ago, when he came to Janesville to reside. He lead a quiet and unobtrusive life but marked by commendable energy and ambition, pronounced characteristics which were the source of his success and his popularity among his associates and acquaintances. Of a sunny disposition, he was highly regarded and loved by all who knew him. In 1873 he was married at Mankato to Miss Bridget McCarthy of Marysburg, who passed away two years ago. To this union ten children were born, all of whom survive him. They are: Thos. J. of San Francisco, J. J., P. J. and F. E. of Janesville, Mrs. J. H. Jackson of Redwood Falls, Mrs. C. E. Jewison and Mrs. Geo. Cunningham of Janesville Township, Mrs. Roy Lynch and Mrs. Peter Barden of Waseca, and Miss Agnes of Minneapolis.
The funeral was conducted Monday morning from St. Ann's Catholic Church and the remains laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery.
Many acquaintances and friends from other places were in attendance at the funeral.
