Mr. Rus was born March 11, 1909 at Prairie View, Kansas, the son of Peter C. and Cornelia Van Wyk Rus. He attended Luctor County School and graduated from the ninth grade.
He farmed in the Prairie View, Kans. area and then came to Iowa in 1936 and farmed in the Pella area. On March 8, 1940 at Peoria, he married Hattie Andringa. He continued farming until 1960, when the government purchased his farm for the Red Rock Lake and they moved into Pella. He then worked in construction, did seed cleaning, and other custom work.
His first wife died Feb. 7, 1972, and on March 24, 1973, he married Nellie Van Mersbergen.
He was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church.
Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Aletta Rus.
He is survived by his wife Nellie.
Memorials have been established to the COC Scholarship Fund and the Pella Community Adult Day Care Center.
