The Anaconda Standard (MT), 11 March 1899

Great Falls, March 10--Mrs. Ellen Baldwin Goss, wife of William B. Goss, died here on the 4th inst. She was born in Massachusetts on April 26, 1818. Early in life she moved to Illinois and at the age of 20 married in Cleveland, Illinois. She was the mother of ten children, two of whom are still in Illinois, and others at various other parts of the country. As far as can be learned, including the grandchildren, Mrs. Goss leaves 48 descendents alive. Soon after the death of her husband she moved with members of her family to Montana. Her eldest son had come to Montana in 1862 and she followed him in 1879, coming up the river to Fort Benton, and from there to Augusta, where she has since resided. At the time of her arrival there were only five white women within miles of her home. About three years ago she was stricken with inflammatory rheumatism, but she has been a patient sufferer. The disease from which she finally died, after a week of suffering, was dropsy. She was loved and respected by all who knew her, a loving and devoted mother and a member of the Baptist church.
