James A. Cunningham, b. OH married Mary Seal b. VA in Ohio in 1849.(1) James b. OH and Mary b. VA can be found residing in Timber Hill, Bourbon County, Kansas in the 1880 US Census, where his birthplace is listed as Ohio, his father's birthplace as Ohio, and his mother's birthplace listed as Virginia. In this same census, Mary's birthplace is listed as Virginia, and both her parents also as Virginia.(2) This does not coincide with the family history of the father you presently have John connected to, which states that his son John, who was born in South Carolina, died in Tennessee. I cannot find a John Cunningham born in South Carolina in a US Census residing in Kansas at all. In the 1900 US Census, John Cunningham can be found residing in the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Edward and Mary Coykendall, in Mill Creek Township, Bourbon County, Kansas.(3) Again, his birthplace is listed as Ohio, his father's as Ohio, and his mother's as Virginia. Note that daughter Mary's birthplace is recorded as Ohio, her father's birthplace as Ohio, and her mother's birthplace as Virginia. This is consistent with John Cunningham, b. Ohio and Mary Seal, b. Virginia. The two sons that are linked to John and Mary Cunningham are probably the sons of John of South Carolina and Mary Hampton, his wife, but this couple in the graveyard in Bourbon County, Kansas does not appear to be the fellow from South Carolina, who is probably interred in Tennessee, and Mary Coykendall is not the daughter of John of South Carolina and Mary Hampton, but is indeed the daughter of the couple in the Bourbon County Kansas graveyard, who are John Cunningham and Mary Seal.
