Frederick Massey (73586484)

Suggested edit: I've transcribed the passage from The Globe (Toronto) - 18 Apr 1890 - Page 8 that covers Fred's death.

"Reference has been made in these columns to the serious illness of Mr. Fred. V. Massey, youngest son of Mr. H.A. Massey, of the Massey Manufacturing Company. Notwithstanding everything that medical skill and expert nursing could do, he died at his father's residence yesterday morning, in the 23rd year of his age. He was born at Newcastle, Ont., and received his early school training in the Common Schools of Cleveland, Ohio, after which he attended five years Brock's Military Academy in that city. He then took a two-years' course at Toronto University, but between these years he made a tour round the world with his elder brother, Mr. W.E.H. Massey. While on this tour the deceased and also his brother contributed some very interesting letters to Tux Gross (sp?). After leaving the University, he, last year, went to Beaton, Mass, to take a course of mechanical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. During his stay there his health broke down through overwork. He has lain on a bed of pain and suffering for twenty weeks. While the trouble originated from a chronic sore throat, acute catarrhal tuberculosis, nervous prostration and other complications set in which rendered his case very difficult to deal with. He was a young man of brilliant promise, one of his most striking characteristics being his intensity of purpose, throwing his whole heart and soul into anything he undertook. He had many excellent social qualities which endeared him to his many warm friends. The bereaved family will have the heartfelt sympathy of numerous friends in the great loss. The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Metropolitan Church."
