Ray was born Oct 19, 1911 in St Johns, Apache County, Arizona.
He had a happy childhood growing up on the Greer ranch and attending
school in St Johns. As a teenager he had a job herding sheep for Marion
Haws of St Johns. He was only 15 when his father died. After his father died,
Ray left home to work against the wishes of his mother .
He traveled around the country a great deal returning for a few days visit.
Ray served in the United States armed forces in World War II.
At the time of his mothers death, July 20, 1944, he was stationed at
Fort Monmouth, New Jersey and was able to return home for her burial.
Ray married twice, to Laura Wright and later to Leona Mae Shamblin
By trade he was a painter and house decorator.
For a time, he lived near his widowed sister Lillian in Sunnyslope, Arizona.
Ray died 14 June 1962 and is buried in St Johns, Apache County Arizona,
