Orpha, daughter of Alexander and Sabina Ann Adams Nicoll, was born March 29, 1867 in American Fork, Utah. She is the seventh child of a family of 12 children, 4 boys and 8 girls. When she was about three years old her family was called to help settle "Dixie" so they moved south to Washington, near St George, Utah. Her father, Alexander built a nice two story home and Orpha's schooling commenced in Washington. In 1880 her family was called to settle on the Little Colorado so that brought them to St Johns, Arizona. Her father again built a fine brick home that was in the north of St Johns. It was in St Johns that she met and married John Harris Greer March 29 1885. Together they raised a family of 14 children. Orpha loved her children and cared well for them. She was hard working and knew how to include everyone in the work, for instance, one would be churning the butter to put on the bread that was baking while another ran the hand-driven washing machine. She was uncomplaining, efficient, a good cook, seamstress and housekeeper. It is said of her that everything she did she did well.
