Samuel Danford Very Ill.
Samuel Danford, the venerable father of Congressman Danford and of DeWitt Danford, of this city, is still critically ill at his home at Crabapple, says the Bellaire correspondent of the Intelligener. He will be ninety four years of age next Monday, and has always been an active and energetic man.
Even up to last winter he exercised personal supervision over the care of the stock on his farm, and was not content unless he could see that all was well each night. In bad weather he was induced sometimes to let others look after those things, but he was never so well contented as when he did it himself, and during all the past summer he was around doing chores as usual.
But his age makes his present illness critical.
Samuel Danford, father of Congressman L. Danford, died last Sunday at his home at Crabapple, Ohio. The deceased was 94 years of age at the time of his death. (Cambridge Jeffersonian 1899-01-19)

(Crabapple) Death has again visited our community and taken from us Samuel Danford, aged 94 years, 2 months and 15 days. All of his children are now living. Hon. L. Danford, DeWitt Danford, Mrs. Sarah Hammond and Mrs. Lizzie D. Myers, besides a number of his grandchildren, were at his bedside watching the approach of death which came at 8 o'clock Sunday night January 8. Mr. Danford has for all these long years in this life been one whom the world could indeed point to as one of the most honorable just and unimpeached characters of man. He was loved and respected in the highest degree, so did he also love and respect his fellow man. There perhaps could hardly be a more loving and being loved father as was Mr. Danford to and by his children and grandchildren. The funeral services took place January 10. Rev. W. G. Lemmon of Beallsville officiated. The remains were interred in the Belmont Ride cemetery, by the side of his wife who preceded him almost nine years ago.
