Cleva Joyce Young Lusk, 75, longtime residence of Midland, with her husband of 58 years by her side, passed away quietly Wednesday morning, July 13, 2011 to be with her Lord and Savior.
Mrs. Lusk was born September 7, 1935 in Clarksville, Texas to the late Judge Carl Young and Oleta Chandler Young. Her late grandparents where James Burt and Fannie Luke Pool Young of Red River County, Texas and William Newton and Maude Ella Justice Chandler of Post, Texas. She attended school in New Deal and Plains, Texas. She met her husband, Harvey Hague Lusk in Plains and was married in Lovington, New Mexico at the First Christian Church on June 2, 1953.
Mrs. Lusk lived in Plains until 1954, where she moved to Midland. She then lived for a short time in Salina, Kansas and then back to Midland in 1958. Mrs. Lusk was a faithful Christian and longtime member of the Westside Church of Christ in Midland. She deeply loved the Lord, her family and any opportunity she had to travel. She and Harvey travelled often to favorite camping sites in Texas and New Mexico. She was also an avid homemaker and was well known for her cooking and sewing abilities and most of all her generosity. She was always busy thinking of others, evident by her many acts of kindness.
Mrs. Lusk is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Judge Edward and James Dee Young; and one sister Sonja Kay Doss. Mrs. Lusk is survived by her husband of 58 years, Harvey Lusk of Midland; two daughters, Sherrie Ponder and husband Bob, of Longview, Texas; and Terrie Colley and husband David of Red Oak Texas; and one son, Harvey Lusk, Jr. and wife Debbie of Hickory Creek, Texas, 6 grandchildren, one great grandson and several nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be at Ellis Funeral home in Midland from 6-8 p.m. on Friday. Funeral services will be held at the Westside Church of Christ in Midland at 10 a.m. on Saturday, officiated by Don Mitchell with burial at 2:30 p.m. in Plains, Texas at the Plains Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Harvey Lusk III, Lance Medford, Nick Bazaldua, Alan Kilgore, Neal Newsom, Nolan Newsom and Justin Sebree.
