Robert L. "Bob" Bodkin, 73, Emporia, Kansas, passed away at the Emporia Presbyterian Manor on Monday, July 18, 2011.

Robert was born August 10, 1937 in Manquoketa, Iowa, the son of LeRoy and Mildred (Houlahan) Bodkin. He married Aneta Nitcher in Des Moines, Iowa July 21, 1972. She survives.

Other surviving family members include: son, Curtis Bodkin, Shawnee, Kansas; daughters, Deborah Doudican, Emporia, and Amy Bodkin, Overland Park, Kansas; brother, Don Bodkin, Denver, Colorado; two grandchildren, Cory Doudican, Emporia, and Melissa Duffey, Emporia; and one great-grandchild, Atalin Doudican.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Tom Bodkin.

Bob operated Bluestem Bowl for 20 years and sold real estate in and around Lyon County. He was actively involved in the Lions and Rotary Club as well as a member of the Chamber of Commerce and Emporia Country Club.

Bob was an avid sports fan who loved coaching softball, and attending ESU and K-State football and basketball games. He also spent many years organizing golf trips to Las Vegas. Additionally, he was faithful to University of Iowa athletics. His love of family and friends was evident throughout his life.

Cremation is planned, with private interment services at Memorial Lawn Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, July 21, 2011 at First United Methodist Church, Emporia. The service will be conducted by Pastor Jeannie Jensen. The family will receive friends in the church parlor one hour prior to the service.

A memorial has been established for diabetic care or The National Kidney Foundation with contributions to The Robert L. Bodkin Memorial Fund sent in care of the funeral home.
