William Henry Phillips served in Company H of the Ohio 51st Regiment of volunteers in the Civil War, enlisting at Roscoe, OH in 1864 at the age of 16. His company is noted on his gravestone in Fort Branch, IN. He and his wife, Margery, had 10 children.

Obituary from the Princeton newspaper on October 27, 1909:

"Henry Phillips, a well known citizen living three miles north of the city, died at 8:15 o'clock this morning. He had been in failing health for some time. He is survived by several children. The funeral will be held at the family residence Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, and the burial will be in Genung cemetery."
