Berry, 74, was born west of Lambert on Oct. 31, 1912, and died Sunday, July 5, at Alfalfa County Hospital. Graveside rites were held at Garrison Cemetery at Dacoma following the service at the Church.
Berry's parents were Herbert and Mayme Berry; however, he was reared by Herb and Flora Berry following the death of Mayme Berry when he was six years old.
He attended Mt. Zion and Keystone elementary schools and graduated from Lambert High School in 1931. He was a student at Northwestern State College at Alva prior to marriage to Mary Hood on Jan. 1, 1935.
The Berrys operated a wheat and dairy farm for many years in the Lambert and Dacoma areas prior to establishing a home in Cherokee in 1962.
Berry was active in several farm organizations and civic clubs. He was a member of the Alfalfa County Farm Bureau, served as president of the Gold Spot Dairy Board of Directors, was an honoree State Farmer of Oklahoma's Future Farmers of America, served as a director for Red Carpet. Country and he and Mrs. Berry were a WKY radio Farm Family of the Month in 1976.
He was a past president of the Cherokee Rotary Club, past master of the Carmen Masonic Lodge, a member of the Cherokee Masonic Lodge, a Shriner and 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the United Brethren Church of Dacoma and a volunteer at Alfalfa County Hospital.
Berry is survived by his wife of the home; a son, Max and his wife Carolyn of Ponca City; a daughter, Barbara and her husband Eddie Smith of Stillwater; three grandchildren, Amanda Berry and Chris and Shandee Smith; and a sister, Helen Fishback, of Cherokee,
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Essie and Mamie; and a brother, Forest.
