The parents of David Lindsay are Thomas Lindsay and Ruth Foster Lindsay. David was the first of 10 children.

David married Mary Varnum on January 24, 1784 and they had six children, of whom the first four were born in Dracut. Mary was the daughter of Major Samuel Varnum and Hannah of Dracut one of the early pioneers to the town. David was a member of the Lexington Alarms in 1775, a member of the Minute Roll of Bunker Hill and the siege of Boston in 1775, and of the Continental Army in later years. The marker on his grave in the old cemetery at Peacham, VT, erected by the DAR, indicates he was a Captain. He suffered an accidental death returning home one night after visiting at a friends home after a heavy rain storm, stumbling in the dark and apparently falling and hitting his head. He was found the next day with his head in a small puddle, drowned.

The children of David and Mary are: Daniel Varnum Lindsay born 7 Oct 1785; Martha Lindsay born 2 Aug 1878, died 9 Mar 1869 at 80 years; Mary Lindsay born 26 May 1789; David Lindsay Jr. born 18 May 1791; James M. Lindsay born 1793 at Littleton, NH; Joseph B Lindsay born 1796 at Danville, Caledonia, VT.
