Son of Hamilton and Mary (Cleland) Murdock/h. Immigrated to Charleston, SC with parents and siblings in 1768. Settled first in South Carolina and later moved to Georgia where he had fought against Indians for a time during his military service. Revolutionary War veteran. Served in Revolution initially as a substitute for his father. His grandsons fought for the Union and the Confederacy during the Civil War, primarily in Indiana and Georgia units.

In addition to the children linked he had a daughter, Prudence (Polly), born 1809 Newberry County, SC, moved to Franklin Co., Ga. where 1832 married Wiley Smith. Then relocated to Clay County Indiana where she died in 1860. Burial location unknown.
