He was the son of William Murdock. Born 15 March 1759 in Ireland and died in Franklin County, GA, and Mary Rubles. They were the parents of 9 children.

David Murdock married Hannah Agnes Plunkett and they had the following children:
Charles Wesley died April 23, 1862, during the Civil War. Margaret, Ruth, John and David, who also died in the war.

Reverend David Murdock joined the Methodist Chuch at Bush River, Anderson District, SC, in May of 1816, under the ministry of Robert L. Edwards.

He was appointed Class Leader in 3 months after he was converted and held that office until 1832, when he was made an exhorter. He commenced preaching in 1847, and was ordained Deacon by Bishop Andrew at Americus, GA, in Dec 1856. He moved from SC to Newton Co., GA, in 1829 and united with Ebenezer Church of which he remained a member until 1872, when he moved to DeKalb Co., GA, and united with the church at Ousley Chapel. There he suffered much and patiently from Cancer of the face until his death. To Brother Murdock religion was happiness, not without labor, but in the midst of labor and poverty and suffering, He was happy in spite of the world, the flesh and the devil.

The above is from the Southern Christian Advocate dated April 17, 1875, by W. H. Potter.
