Son of Mr. Thomas D. Griffiths and Elizabeth Jones. Brother to Mr. John Griffith/Griffiths, Mr. Enoch Theodore Griffith/Griffiths, and Elizabeth Griffith/Griffiths. Thomas and his family arrived in New York from Wales on 23 Sep 1865 aboard the Steamer Erin.
Thomas married Mary Ann "Ann" Jones on 16 Mar 1869 in Jackson County, Ohio (marriage license filled on 23 Mar 1869). Together they had 9 children, 6 of which lived beyond infancy. One of the children that did not live beyond his youth was their first born, Thomas Charles Griffith (who died at age 8). Their second born son, John L. Griffith, died when he was one year old. The 5 children that lived beyond childhood are as follows: Elizabeth "Libbie" Ann Griffith Miller Edwards, Harriet "Hattie" E. Griffith Lloyd, Janet "Jane" "Jennie" M. Griffith Greenwood, Mr. Irven Stanley Griffith, Lillian Griffith, and Edna Rhys Griffith West.
Thomas married Elizabeth E. "Emma" Jenkins after his first wife, Ann, died. Thomas and Emma were married on 27 Jul 1891 in Ironton, Lawrence County, Ohio. Together they had 2 children as follows: Mr. David Emil Rhys Griffith Sr. and Mary Helen "Helen" Griffith McKee.
