Was With Indian Service For Years

B.E. Brigance of Tupelo, who was an assistant superintendent of Indian Service for the U.S. Department of Interior for 27 years, died at 8:30 a.m. Sunday in Pontotoc after an extended illness. He was 86.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday in the Chapel of Pegues Funeral Home with the Rev. A.L. Dickerson officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.
Mr. Brigance, who was known as "Father B" to his relatives and friends, was born in Tate County and operated a farm in DeSoto County several years before accepting a position with the Indian Service, whom he served until he retired 15 years ago. He was a Methodist. His wife died 14 years ago and one of his sons, Dr. W.Norwood Brigance of Crawfordsville, Ind., died six weeks ago.
Mr. Brigance leaves two daughters Mrs. J.M. Tidwell of Amarillo, Texas, and Mrs. J.L. Riley of Tupelo; two sisters, Mrs. Ed McKee of Milan, Tenn., and Mrs. Sue Gray Nichols of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two brothers, W.Eugene Brigance of Dallas, Texas, and P. M. Brigance of Ardmore, Okla.; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.' Pallbearers will be Frank Riley, Thomas Boggan, Wallace Hosmer, William Burt, Burl Megginson and Kelly Helms.
