Eunice E (Brown) Glover was the 1st of 3 children of John Brown & his 3rd wife Rosa (Rose) Clute, of the village / hamlet of Upper Lisle, Town of Triangle, Broome County, NY. In total, she was John Brown's 9th child.

The "B" on her grave stone is believed to stand for her Maiden Name of "Brown".

Her First Name was sometimes spelled as "Unis". In fact, whenever my grandfather Harry Brown talked about her, when I would about her photos on the family pump organ, I was led to believe the spelling was "Unis". In the 1910 U.S. Federal Census, her name was spelled as "Unis E Glover" (she was married to John Glover by then), but in almost other Census records, her name was spelled as "Eunice". Her niece Pearl was partly named after her, with Pearl's Middle Name being "Unis".

Multiple Census and Marriage records list Eunice's Middle Initial as "E", rather than the "B" that appears on the grave stone. I do not know what the "E" stood for.

Eunice was the mother of 4 children, the last 3 of whom were fathered by her husband John F Glover.

Since all the Principals are now dead, I can tell this story.

Eunice was an Unwed Mother at the she married John Glover. The story line is something like this: Travelling Salesman comes to the Lisle area, ending up renting a room at the home of one of Eunice's Maternal Uncles. Travelling Salesman was a handsome & charming man. Sadly, also a dishonest one. He seduced Eunice. Rumor has it she wasn't the only one of her female cousins he seduced, and also got pregnant! Having done that, he took off! Rumor has it he came from Binghamton, NY. Went back there, or went further away, never to be seen again, leaving Eunice (and perhaps others), Pregnant and Unwed.

Certainly the man's name was Known to those the area, but has remained Unknown to Brown / Clute Family Researchers. Perhaps because he wasn't around to sign the Birth Certificate, or perhaps it was thought that his Name didn't deserved to be attached to his son, when then baby was born, a boy, he was given the Last Name of BROWN -- Eunice's Maiden Name.

This infant son, born out of wedlock at a time that was Most Socially UNacceptable, was named "Kennard Weygent (or Weygant?) BROWN. When John Glover married Eunice Brown, he refused to Adopt young Kennard. Thus, Kennard was raised as a BROWN, rather than a GLOVER. Kennard's descendants thus have the Surname "Brown".

The name "Weygent" comes from name of John Brown's mother -- Mary (Weygant) Brown (1816 - 1850).
