John Brown (1848 - 1930) was a 3rd-generation farmer in the Town of Lisle, Broome County, NY.

At one time he also owned a hotel / inn in Upper Lisle, NY, next to the General Store (later called Erikson's General Store). The hotel was later owned by Victor & Mary Lamb. The hotel / inn / house no longer exists.

John Brown's paternal grandparents were John Brown (1782 - 1852) & Nancy Wood (1786 - 1862). They arrived in Tompkins County, NY, from CT, around 1800, then in the Town of Lisle around 1810. By that time they had a number of children. This established the 1st generation of Brown farmers in the Town of Lisle.

This John Brown's parents were Hiram Brown (1810 - 1880) & (2) Mary Weygant (1816 - 1850).

This John Brown was married 3 times. First to Elizabeth Crairy around 1867. Elizabeth died in 1872, said to have happened shortly after giving birth to their 3rd child, Elizabeth Brown. Elizabeth Brown died young. Second marriage was to Amanda Orton in 1873. After Amanda died, John married a 3rd time in around 1888 to my maternal great-grandmother Rose / Rosa Clute.
