MCGUIRE, Albert Age 91, of Hamilton passe away peacefully at the Woodlands Retirement Community on the evening of July 12, 2011. He was born in Hamilton on March 3, 1920, son of William and Sallie Ann McGuire. On June 8, 1940, he married his sweetheart, Ruth Allen, and they enjoyed 67 and half years of marriage before her death in August 2007. Mr. McGuire was drafted in 1943 and served in the Army for 3 years, spending most of that time in Europe in the 224th Quarter Master Salvage Repair Company in the First Army. His service took him through Paris, Belgium and many other parts of Europe. He was discharged with many decorations in Berlin. He recently received a "Thank You America" certificate from the Government of France for his participation in the Normandy Landing and his contribution in the liberation of France. Sgt. McGuire returned home from the Army with 5 Battle Stars, the WWII Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, a Sharp Shooter Medal and several other decorations. Mr. McGuire worked at Champion Papers for over 45 years as a paper trimmer. Albert was a long time member of Westwood Presbyterian Church and enjoyed the fellowship and many good times experienced there. He was also active in the church's Boy Scout Troop 982. At age 90 Mr. McGuire was awarded his High School Diploma by the Hamilton City Schools Board of Education. That accomplishment and a story about his army service generated front page stories in the journal News. Mr. McGuire loved his cabin at Lake Cumberland and enjoyed it with his family and friends for 52 years. He was still water-skiing on one ski at age 82. He especially enjoyed roaming the woods looking for materials that he could use to make canes and sling-shots. An avid trader and collector, Mr. McGuire received great joy from yard sales, and selling his wares at area flea markets. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. He never met a stranger. He took great pride in the accomplishments of his sons, their wives and his grandchildren. He loved music, parties and dancing. He could really "bust a move" on the dance floor. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruth; parents; 7 brothers and sisters; and 2 great grandchildren, Olivia McGuire and Jack McGuire. He is survived by 4 devoted sons, Michael J. McGuire, Timothy L. McGuire, and twins, Todd A. (Brenda) McGuire, Ted A. (Jamie) McGuire; 11 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren. The family wishes to thank his many caregivers while he was at home, and especially devoted grandson George McGuire, the head caregiver. Also, special thanks to the wonderful staff at the Woodlands Retirement Community and Hospice of Southwest Ohio. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations be made to Westwood Presbyterian Church or Honor Flight at HonorFlight.org/donate. This organization takes WWII Veterans to Washington D.C. at no cost to view their long awaited WWII memorial. Visitation will be 10am until time of service (12noon), Saturday, July 16, 2011, at the Webb Noonan Kidd Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Millville Cemetery with Pastor Joshua Long of Westwood Presbyterian Church officiating. Condolences may be sent at Webb-Noonan.com
