Billy Douglas Angus, 84, of Sandyville, went to be with the Lord Monday, July 11, 2011 following an extended illness.

He was born May 27, 1927 at Livperpool, Jackson County, son of the late Ernest Theodore and Minnie Waggoner Angus.

Billy formerly worked for Carl Smith Pipeline and the State Conservation Commission in wildlife and forestry programs. He retired in 1988 with over 30 years as a mill operator at Kaiser Aluminum.

Billy was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the waning days of WW-II. He served stints in France and Germany and guarded German POWs during their repatriation. Originally a scout in the Big Red One, he was reassigned to transportation services as hostilities concluded.

He was known as a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid outdoorsman and hunter and coon hunted competitively, capturing many awards over the years. He and his wife of 40 years, Frances, were also NASCAR fans, specifically Dale Jr.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons, Douglas Angus (Joyce) of Charleston, Norse Angus (Sherri) of Ravenswood, Terry Angus (Rennie) of Ravenswood, Joe Angus (Rina) of Barboursville and Bobby Wayne (Mildred) of Sandyville; daughters, Rita Hill (Douglas) of Clearwater, Fla., Connie Dees of Cherry Log, Ga., and Sherry Dillon (Randal) of Ravenswood; brother, Lewis Angus of Ravenswood; sisters, Ruth Pepper of Silverton and Evelyn Morgan of Sandyville. He also leaves 22 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and "Pickles", a Jack Russell that is the first "in-house" dog he ever owned.

In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by a sister, Olive Angus and an infant brother, Dennis Angus.

Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Friday at Waybright Funeral Home with Pastor S.R. Parsons Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at the Drift Run Church Cemetery, Sandyville with military graveside rites by American Legion Post 107, Ripley. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Billy's family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire staff at Jackson General Hospital and Jackson County Home Health for the competent and compassionate care shown to Billy during his illness.
