CARRIER, Gladys Ashley, 94, Neighborly Way, Somerset, died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, at The Neighborhood Nursing Facility in Somerset. A Casey County native, she was born Sept. 16, 1909, daughter of the late Solomon and Sarah Wall Ashley.

She was a graduate of Eastern Kentucky Normal School and Campbellsville College. She began teaching in Whitley City in 1925, and continued for 30 years, retiring in Elizabethtown, Ky. She was a faithful member of Beacon Hill Baptist Church in Somerset.

Survivors include two daughters, Vicki Lynn Humphrey, Dayton, Ohio, and Dixie Lee (and Bill) Clark, Winston Salem, N.C.; three granddaughters, Erica Renee (and Bryn) Daulton, Somerset, and Tammy Sue (and Charles) Pell and Deborah Ann Herring, both of Winston Salem, N.C.; and a great-grandchild, Kathryn Ashley Pell, Winston Salem. She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. E.V. Carrier, whom she married Dec. 22, 1934; her parents; and 11 brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15, at the chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home with Dr. John Mark Toby and the Rev. C.E. Jacobs officiating. Burial will be in Science Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 8 a.m. today, until time for services. Commonwealth Journal
