Pueblo, Colo., July 19 published in the Denver Post
"Probably when Charles Benton Baty was born, seventy six years ago, boys dreamed of becoming circus acrobats, or officers who could beat bad men to the draw, or boxers who were fast with their fists.
Baty, before death closed his varied career Friday, had been all of these.
The first day Baty was on the Pueblo police force, in 1912 he arrested three city officials for speeding. The next day he was promoted to the detective force.
In his ten years as a policeman he killed ten men in the line of duty.
A boxer in his youth, Baty later joined the Barnum & Bailey circus as an acrobat, performing with his wife and son, Charles Jr.
Funeral services for the retired policeman will be Monday."
