LeRoy attended country school and completed elementary and two years of high school at Hopkins, Mo.
When he was 18, he and his brother, George, operated a hardware store at Sharpsburg, Ia.
He was drafted into the Army and served three years as a quartermaster during WWII.
After his discharge, he returned to the hardware business in Rockport, Mo.
LeRoy met Anna Becwar Jirkovsky of Geneva when he paid his condolences to the family after the death of Anna's brother, who was a very close buddy during the war.
LeRoy and Anna were married September 9, 1946, and made their home in Rockport for one year and then returned to Geneva.
LeRoy worked for the Youth Development Center for 18 years and after three additional years at the Koehler Company, he retired.
He entered Heritage in October 1985 to be with his wife, Anna.
At Heritage he was seldom in his room. He kept busy visiting with the other residents and teasing the nurses. He had a great sense of humor and was known by his friends as "Onery."
His favorite pastimes were playing cards, visiting and recalling his army days. He had a special interest in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren's lives.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his wife, Anna; parents; four brothers and three sisters.
He is survived by one son, Raymon Jirkovsky of Lincoln; one daughter, Mrs. Clinton (Ruby) Volkmer of Fairmont; nine grandchildren ; eight great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews and many friends.
Funeral services were conducted from the Farmer & Son Funeral Home in Geneva on Monday, August 22, with the Rev. Charles Schepel officiating.
Mrs. Norval Lomax accompanied Curt Prater, who sang "Rock of Ages" and "How Great Thou Art."
Active pallbearers were Randy and Michael Jirkovsky, David Wythers, Terry and Douglas Volkmer and Nathan Hillmer.
Honorary pallbearers were Rex Radcliff, Douglas Smith, and Joe Jirkovsky.
Interment was in the Bohemian National Cemetery.
