Salathiel Grayson, the veteran newspaper man, who died last week at Indianapolis, was a native of Decatur county, having been born at Westport, March 18, 1837. He was a son of John Grayson and was for many years connected with the Madison Courier, probably about the time another Decatur man was on that paper. We refer to G. W. Crail, who was born on the Brookville road four miles east of Greensburg.

TRIBUTE TO MR. GRAYSON
Madison Paper Speaks Highly of Pioneer Editor Who Made Home Here for Short Time.
Mention was made recently of the death of Salathiel Grayson, father of Mrs. J.E. Bernier, of 1511 Camp avenue. Mr. Grayson spent about a year at the home of his daughter here and acquired a large acquaintance locally as a regular attendant at Court street church, a member of the Brotherhood of that church and a visitor at the local lodges of the I.O.O.F. with which order he was affiliated for a number of years.
Mr. Grayson's death resulted from a paralytic stroke while on a visit with daughter at Indianapolis, Ind., Mrs. Harry M. Goold. He was city editor of the Madison Courier for over fifty years. He retired from this position in June of last year and came to Rockford to make his home with the daughter here.
He had just completed a visit with each of his children, the trip calling him from Rockford to Cincinnati, to Carrolton, Madison and Indianapolis, when the summons came.
The Madison Courier devotes a column to an obituary mention of Mr. Grayson and pays sincere tribute to his worth as a citizen and as a newspaperman.
