Mr. Earnest Lee Earp, 80, of Dewitt Barnett Road, Banner Elk, the Valle Crucis community, died Tuesday, May 11, 2010 evening at home.

Born Nov. 7, 1929 in Watauga County, he was a son of the late Lee and Ethel Greer Earp. Mr. Earp was retired from Appalachian State University where he worked as a groundskeeper. He was a member of Mount Lebanon Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Audie Lee Colvard Earp; two sons, Earnie Lee Earp and wife, Marie, of Vilas, and Cecil Earp of Banner Elk; one daughter, Kathy Earp Isaacs of Banner Elk; two sisters, Violet Moore and husband, Lewis, of Lenoir and Ivalean Stewart of Vilas; and 17 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Larry and Bobby Earp; an infant daughter; one grandson, Chuck Earp; one great-grandson, Payden Brown; and one brother, Rufus Earp.

Services will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. Darrel Miller. Burial will follow in the Danner Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 until 7:30 p.m. at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home.
