Robert David "Bob" Witherspoon, 39, died yesterday morning at 11 o'clock at the home of his sister, Mrs. Helen Byrd, 214 South Barringer street. He was a native of Timmonsville, the son of the late Robert Davis and Ellen Mary Cox Witherspoon.
Mr. Witherspoon was a painter by trade. He had lived here for 20 years and was well known and had many friends. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.
The funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock at 213 South Barringer street and will be conducted by the Rev. P.R. Bussey. The body will remain at the home until the time for the funeral. Mr. Witherspoon had been sick several weeks. ("encephalitis" SC Death Certificiate # 1939-11279)
The following sisters and brothers survive: Mrs. Helen Byrd of Florence, Mrs. T.J. Jolly of Darlington, and P.M. and J.E. Witherspoon of Florence.
Active pallbearers will be H. Hubbard, Henry Hoffmeyer, George Manseur, Colie Mitchell, and Muldrow Weatherford.
