The only child of Fredrick Charles Jackson and Flora Adair Parker. Helen's father was a conductor on the Southern Pacific Railroad and enjoyed many trips with her parents be it by train, steamer or car.

Helen married, first, Walter Martin Byrnes on June 16, 1935 in the backyard of her parents in Oakland, California - one child from this marriage, Louise Helen Byrnes.

Helen earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from State Teachers College of California, San Jose on June 17, 1932 and began her teaching career with her first assignment in a one room school in Camptonville, California. Helen continued her teaching activities in San Jose, California until the 1960's.

On August 23, 1956, Helen married Thomas Lee Hushbeck in the First Methodist Church of Reno, Nevada. Helen and "Grandpa Lee" spent their remaining years traveling with trips to Panama, but spending most of their travels between Yuma, Arizona and Northern California via their "silver bullet" (Airstream) travel trailer.

Helen was a long-time Eastern Star member and an avid fisherwoman.
