Julia Ann Harris Starling was his second wife. James served as a 2nd Lieut. in the Georgia Mounted Militia during the second Seminole War in Florida and as Captain in the Florida State Militia (Home Guards) during the Civil War. His Widow, Julia, collected pensions for both periods of his service.
