Mrs. Banie Kincaid moved to Brown County with her parents in 1877 when Brownwood was not yet in existence and trading posts were far apart. In 1880, the Lyon family moved to Taylor County establishing a home in the southwest part of the county now known as the Moro community. She recalled the winter of 18799-1880 was recorded the coldest in this area of Texas. Mrs. Kinkaid moved to Buffalo Gap in 1884 with her parents and lived here since except for a few years she and her late husband lived in the Iberis community in the south part of Abilene. Mrs. Kinkaid graduated from the Presbyterian College in Buffalo Gap in 1890. She taught school in Buffalo Gap, schools near Potosi, Merkel, and in Runnels County. In 1910, Mr. and Mrs. Kincaid bought the Lyon Hotel, which was established in Buffalo Gap by their parents. Mrs. Kinkaid lived in the hotel from 1910 until her died. Names on the old hotel register include those of many prominent people - among them Mr. and Mrs. Dan Moody who signed the register on their wedding day. Mr. Moody later became governor of Texas. Mrs. Kincaid, a Republican, was appointed postmaster in Buffalo Gap in 1930 and served until her retirement in 1945. The post office then was located in front of the hotel. With no children of their own, Mr. and Mrs. Kincaid raised her two cousins - Mrs. Bessie Maxwell Dean and Mrs. Tisha Maxwell Afflerbaugh. Other close relatives are a nephew - Robert Craig Lyon Lynn; one niece - Margaret Euler. Mrs. Kinkaid was a charter member of the Buffalo Gap Church of Christ.
