Mrs. J. F. Freeland, age 40 years and 8 days, died at her home in Effingham, Thursday May 19, from the effect of a cancerous tumor. Mrs. Freeland has been under the care of the physicians for about one and one half years, and had suffered a great deal, the last few weeks of her sickness her suffering had been very intense. Her physician notified the family some time ago that there was no hope of here recovery, and her death had been expected almost daily for the past week. Mrs. Freeland was formerly Miss Nora Bonnell, daughter of Charles Bonnell, one of the best known and most prosperous farmers in this section. She was born on the old homestead May 11, 1864, and was married to J. F. Freeland March 29, 1883. Her husband and only child, Ben, survive her. She is also survived by her father, seven sisters and four brothers. The funeral occurred at the Christian church at Effingham Saturday, conducted by Rev. Z. S. Hastings and assisted by REv. H. E. ball, and was one on the most largely attended funerals ever held in Effingham. Mrs. Freeland had lived in this neighborhood all her life and had and unusually large number of friends. The burial at her request occurred in the Evergreen cemetery.
