CATHERINE WERTENBAKER, born June 5, 1813, in the vicinity of Myersville, Frederick county, died suddenly at her son-in-law's, E. Kinna's, near Lantz P. O., Md., April 1, aged 83 years 9 months and 27 days.
Four daughters and two sons, also two sisters and one brother, are left to mourn their loss.
"Mother" Wertenbaker was a devoted and consistent Christian worker in the U. B. Church for about fifty years, respected and loved by all who knew her.
Her worthy husband, Lewis Wertentaker, died thirty years ago.
As they walked along through life, the door of their house was open for prayer meeting before there was a place built for worship. Under their roof the weary itinerant minister was sheltered and refreshed, and during the lonely years of widowhood she was patient, uncomplaining, of a cheerful disposition, always doing good to others and having the Bible for her dally companion. Her children will miss her gentle hand to help, her loving words of comfort, always telling them to trust in Jesus and making inquiry about their soul's salvation.
