"John F. Balthaser, seventy-three, a retired butcher of Ephrata, died in the Lancaster General hospital at 6:13 p. m. Thursday of complications after a lingering illness. He was aadmitted to the hospital two weeks ago.
He was born in Berks county, a son of the late Jacob and Magdalena Faust Balthaser. He operated a meat store and slaughter house in Ephrata for forty years. He was a member of the Odd Fellows, Reamstown; and the Order of Owls, Ephrata.
The following children survive: Dr. J. B. Balthaser and John Balthaser, both of Erie; Dr. H. B. Balthaser, Philadelphia; Maude, wife of Dr. George Johnson, New Kensington; Isaac M. and Andrew Balthaser, Ephrata; and Frances Balthaser, New York. A number of grandchildren, three brothers, Howard, Reading; William, Temple; and Thomas city; and two sisters, Mrs. Sallie Becker and Mrs. Emma Noacker, West Reading, also survive."
