Heidi was working as an apprentice for a printing company when she met Jim Branz through a mutual friend. He was an American serving with the US Army in Wurzburg where he fell in love with a lovely German girl with green eyes.
Jim brought Heidi to the United States in 1962 and they were married Oct 26, 1962 at the home of his parents in Pontiac, Illinois. Life in the US was challenging for a young German wife with limited English. She was very happy when Jim received orders to return to Germany where he served 2 additional tours of duty.
Their first child Jackie was born in the Landstuhl Military Hospital in Germany. Their second daughter Sonja was born while Jim was assigned to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
In 1981 Jim, Heidi and daughters moved to Lacey, Washington so he could work at Fort Lewis Army Base. Heidi worked part-time in a printing company in Tumwater. She became an accomplished artist and was active in the Democratic Party. She enjoyed hiking, cross country skiing and trips home to Germany to visit family and friends.
Heidi died at the age of 59 from a cardiac aneurysm. She was a loving wife and mother and will be forever in our hearts.
