J.W. Burroughs was a lawyer in Savannah.
On November 26, 1878, John W. Burroughs married Mrs. Margaret Roberts Guerard in Savannah, Chatham County, GA. They were married by Charles H. Strong, Rector of St. John's Church (Chatham County Marriage Book, 1877-1878, p. 485.) They had four children: Margaret Valeria, Kate Roberts, John Whitehead, Jr., and Stiles Brown Burroughs.
FUNERAL INVITATIONS.
BURROUGHS-The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Burroughs are respectfully invited to attend the funeral of the former from the residence at No. 211 East Bolton Street, at 4 o'clock, this afternoon. Interment private. No. flowers.

JOHN W. BURROUGHS.
After battling with a severe attack of grip for a month, John W. Burroughs, Esq., died at this home, No. 211 Bolton Street, East, yesterday morning. His constitution being weakened by a long siege of pneumonia a year ago, he was unable to recover from the effects of this last attack.
Mr. Burroughs had passed his three-score and ten years, having been born in Savannah Aug. 9, 1840. He was the son of the late Joseph H. Burroughs, a successful commission merchant of Savannah, and a grandson of the Hon. John Macpherson Berrien. His primary education was received at Chatham Academy, and he was an alumnus of Oglethorpe Presbyterian University.
Mr. Burroughs served four years in the Confederate Army as a member of the Savannah Volunteer Guards, He was also a staff officer of the Twenty First Battalion of Georgia cavalry. He surrendered with Gen. Johnston's command in North Carolina. He was a member of the Savannah Bar for forty years, was a consistent member of the Presbyterian Church, a member of Lafayette McLaws Camp, Confederate Veterans, and an Odd Fellow.
Mrs. Burroughs is survived by his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Thomas S. Clay, Mrs. Allen Izard Williams and Miss Margaret Burroughs; two sons, John W. Burroughs, Jr., and Stiles Brown Burroughs, and one brother, Dr. W.B. Burroughs of Brunswick.
The funeral will take place from the family residence at 4 o'clock this afternoon. The services will be conducted by the Rev. Dr. Rockwell S. Brank, pastor of the Independent Presbyterian Church. Interment will be in the Burroughs Lot in Laurel Grove Cemetery, and will be private.
