Margaret Roberts was the daughter of wealthy cotton merchant and banker, Hiram Roberts, originally from Barnwell District, South Carolina and Mary Jane Roberts of Savannah, GA. Margaret's siblings include: Louisa, Katherine "Kate" (Mrs. William Stiles Brown), Dwight, Hiram, Ada, Daisy, Bessie, and Emma Roberts (Mrs. Josiah Walthour).

About 1864, Margaret Roberts married Robert Charlton Guerard in Savannah, GA. They had a son named Robert Godin Guerard. (When he became an adult, Robert G. moved to New Orleans, Louisiana and became a real estate agent.)

Robert Charlton Guerard died in service in the Confederate Army. He was a private in Lieut. Waring's Company, Georgia Cavalry.

On November 26, 1878, Mrs. Margaret R. Guerard married John W. Burroughs in Savannah, Chatham County, GA. They were married by Charles H. Strong, Rector of St. John's Church (Chatham County Marriage Book, 1877-1878, p. 485.) They had four children: Margaret Valeria, Kate Roberts(Mrs. Allan Igard Williams) , John Whitehead, Jr., and Stiles Brown Burroughs.

On Friday, December 26, 1919, Mrs. Burroughs died of pellegra and was buried in Laurel Grove Cemetery in Savannah, GA.

BURROUGHS-Died at 3 o'clock a.m. Dec. 26, 1919, in her seventy-sixth year, Mrs. Mary Roberts Burroughs. Funeral took place 3 p.m. Dec. 26. Interment Laurel Grove Cemetery.
