Rev. James T. Winchester was born in Harlin county, Kentucky, March 2, 1835. Died at his home 6 miles east of Neosho Feby, 8, 1917. He was 81 years, 11 months and 7 days old. He came to Missouri with his parents and located at Granby in 1871. When the Civil War broke out he enlisted as a volunteer, 1st Arkansas regiment, company H.

He was married to Mary A. May, March 28, 1858. From this union were born five sons and four daughters. He professed faith in Christ when 13 years of age and united with the Missionary Baptist Church. In 1884 was publicly ordained to the gospel ministry. His work as a minister was principally in Shoal Creek Association, serving the churches as pastor, assisting in the ordination of ministers and did a great deal of mission work. He won many souls to Christ, some of whom are preaching the gospel. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. T.M. Norris at Elm Springs Church and his body laid away in Elm Springs Cemetery. He was a good man, a devoted Christian and a successful minister.
