The funeral of Mrs. Myra Hesse was held at New Bethel Baptist Church in Shawnee Township this afternoon with Rev. Langston in charge. Burial was in the cemetery near the church. Mrs. Hesse died of pneumonia late Sunday night at her home near New Bethal at the age of 19 years. On Feb. 10 her mother, Mrs. Penrod died, succumbing also to pneumonia, and it was while nursing her mother that Mrs. Hesse contracted the disease that proved fatal in just one week.
Mrs. Hesse was born in the community where she spent her entire life. On Dec. 6, 1906, she was married to August Hesse, and since that time lived in the picturesque river hills in the northeastern part of the country. She is survived by her husband, three sons, Albert Hess, who is in a CCC Camp, and Leo and Harold at home; three daughters, Mrs. August Ackman of New Bethel, Mrs. Homer Bridges of Arkadelphia, Ark., and Mrs. Eldo Ruehling of New Wells; five brothers, Hugh Penrod of Cape Girardeau, John Penrod of Cobden, Ill., Clint Penrod of New Bethel, Joe Penrod in Arkansa, and Lee Penrod of Oriole; three sisters, Mrs. Ed Hutteger of New Wells, Mrs. Minnie Cotner of Cape Girardeau, and Miss Della Penrod of New Bethel; also seven grandchildren.
