Martha was born Feb. 28, 1849, in Marshall Co., Ind., daughter of parents also born in that state. She died Oct. 23, 1922, at the home of her daughter, Mary O'Connell, at Menomonie, aged 73 years, 7 months and 25 days, and was buried there in Evergreen Cemetery.

On April 22, 1870 Martha married Daniel Gordon in Argos, Marshall Co., Ind. Daniel was born Nov. 29, 1844, in Seneca Co., Ohio, son of George W. Gordon. He died Dec. 28, 1915, at Hillsdale, aged 71 years and 29 days, and was buried in Wayside Cemetery. After the death of his wife Martha, his body was disinterred from his burial plot in Wayside Cemetery and buried besides the remains of his wife in Evergreen Cemetery at Menomonie. However his military gravestone still marks his former grave in Wayside Cemetery.

EARLY SETTLER DIES

Mrs. Daniel Gordon, formerly of this place, died at Menomonie last week. The body of her husband, who died Dec. 28, 1915, was removed from the Wayside cemetery to Menomonie Monday and the two bodies interred in twin graves.

MRS. DANIEL GORDON DIES
AT SON'S MENOMONIE HOME

Mrs. Martha Gordon, widow of Daniel Gordon, Barron county pioneer, died at the home of her son, Lafayette Gordon at Menomonie, Monday, Oct. 23, at 11 p. m. following a stroke of paralysis.

Martha Lowry was born Feb. 28, 1849, in Marshall county, Ind. She was united in marriage to Daniel Gordon in 1869 and they lived in Argus, Ind., until they came to Wisconsin in 1880. They resided for a time in Pierce county, then in Dunn county, and later in Barron county, making their home there until Mr. Gordon died Nov. 28, 1915, at Hillsdale. Since then Mrs. Gordon made her home the greater part of the time with her son, Lafayette Gordon at whose home she died.

Mr. and Mrs. Gordon were blest with fifteen children, ten of whom are living. They are: Mrs. Mabel Stark and Mrs. Ida Werlich of Minneapolis, Minn.; Mrs. Mary O'Connell and Mrs. Cora Crowley of Detroit, Mich.; Mrs. Edna Kuklay of St. Paul, Minn.; Arthur Gordon of Madoc, Mont.; Lafayette Gordon of Menomonie and Harry Gordon of Heron Lake, Minn.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 26, at 2:30 p. m. at the Lafayette Gordon home, at Menomonie, the Rev. A. Klein of that place officiating.

All of the children were present at the funeral. Others from a distance who attended the funeral are: J. Lowry of Argus, Ind., brother of the deceased, and many of her friends from Barron, Hillsdale, Hatchville and Knapp.

The body was placed in the vault in Evergreen cemetery until the following Tuesday when her husband's remains were removed from Wayside cemetery, Barron and both were buried together at Menomonie in Evergreen cemetery.

Mrs. Gordon was a genial, lovable woman, who endeared herself to a large circle of friends. She was remarkably youthful for her years and was keenly interested in every activity for civic betterment. [Published Friday, November 10, 1922, Barron County News Shield, Barron, Wisconsin.]
