She was the last surviving charter member of the Mary Washington Branch of the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities. For many years she assisted her sister, Miss Kate Mander, in the operation of the McDonald School, giving private instruction in her home.
She was also an officer (recording secretary) in the Fredericksburg United Daughters of the Confederacy chapter.
