Family photo with Alonzo J. Barton, his wife Lucy J. (Covell) Barton, and their oldest child Bertrand E. Barton, born 15 March 1868. Photo was probably taken in about 1872, shortly before Alonzo and family moved from Minnesota to Wisconsin. Photo was from the collection of the late Paul A. Barton.

Lucy "Mabel"* J. Covell Barton is interned UNMARKED. The stone is either covered or was destroyed over the years. She is interned between the stand-up stone on the right (the left gray stone one, of the two stand-ups front center of picture) and the flat, dark stone on the left. "Mr. JOHN GOSS" is the Right Stone and Ms Dorthea Peterson is on the left, with Lucy in between, according to cemetery personnel. The TRUNK of the tree points to the empty spot in the center foreground in that row where she is buried. This photo is looking to the approx. N.E.North from behind the stones noted, which FACE EAST. This is about 7 rows west of the EAST LOOP where the Upside Down "L" Road from the Left meets the EAST Loop. Photo taken on the "L" Road. The cemetery is open to the MAIN LINE of UNION PACIFIC Railroad, with no guard fences, which runs these tracks from Tacoma to Seattle, on the north side of the cemetery. You can see the rail roadbed in the picture. (These are noted as a "Dangerous Track Area" with High Speed Trains travel thru here often.) Please be careful with children traveling with you. This cemetery is not a playground or open as others maybe. This cemetery is known as the PIONEER CEMETERY, which is controlled by the City of Sumner Cemetery Offices. The office is on the South side of the main road access, Valley Ave., E. which runs NW to ESE in W. SUMNER, WA. (This cemetery's office is NOT in the Abbey Mausoleum on this side of the road nor are there any records for this cemetery, there.) Hopefully a BARTON family member or family can place a new stone for future generations to visit for Lucy? Main Office is on the south hand side of the MAIN Hwy, Valley Ave.,E.
