Henrietta Jane was her given name but the family called her Sis or Sissie and she was Net or Nettie to her friends. Nettie, a tall jolly woman, was the second child of Mike and Augusta Dasher Burch. She went into teaching immediately following high school graduation. Nettie spent some interesting years teaching in remote areas of the county. At that time teachers stayed in homes of patrons of the school. On leaving home her parents cautioned her that she must eat what ever was set before her no matter how strange and act as a member of the family. According to stories she late told her children some of the food was strange indeed!

Nettie was thirty before she found the man for her, Benjamin Levi Harrell [Ben], a widower. Her mother, Augusta, enjoyed having her children with her and would have been content if marriage had never entered the picture. But she and Mike ultimately gave their blessing and Nettie and Ben were married August 4, 1904. Ben had previously been married to Nettie's best friend. Her friend, when on her death bed, pleaded with Nettie to make Ben her husband.

Their marriage was a long and fruitful one resulting in 2 daughters, Fannie Laura and Mary Augusta, and 2 sons, Michael Benjamin nicknamed Ben, and Albert Moore called Albert.
