She was born in Patrick County on June 28, 1912 to the late Willie Elmer and Lillie Bowling Adkins. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Linville Shelton; a son, Raymond Shelton; and a brother, Alvis Duel Adkins.
She was a graduate of Radford College and was a member of Stuart Baptist Church. She was a retired teacher with the Patrick County school system, and was a member of the Joy Workers, the Marie Shumate Circle and the Retired Teachers Association.
Surviving are one son, Richard Shelton of Stuart; one sister, Lorna Adkins of Stuart; a daughter-in-law; five grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 23, 2006, at Moody Funeral Home chapel in Stuart with Rev. Lee Shelton officiating. Burial was in Stuart Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Darrin Grogan, Kevin Grogan, Ray Grogan, Jody Shelton, Donnie Shelton and Dale Shelton.
