Perry, was employed as a Civil Engineer and was never married.
He enlisted in Co C 47th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Regiment on September 2, 1861 and while still a Private he was wounded on October 19, 1864 at the Battle of Cedar Creek, Virginia, one of the Civil War's tide-turning engagements that was part of Philip Sheridans game-changing Shenandoah Valley Campaign in 1864.
