Born in Salt Lake City on September 30, 1913 to Hyrum and Margaret Glade Derrick. Married Augustus Shepherd and later divorced. Married Eugene Richard Lester on January 10, 1970. Margaret attended Salt Lake City schools and the University of Utah.
Her career as a librarian spanned thirty-five years including the City library system and Utah State Historical Society, where she received the Honorary Lifetime Member Award.
In 1973, was awarded Outstanding Female Employee of the State of Utah for that year. Author of "Brigham Street", a social and biographical saga of South Temple Street.
Her heart and breadth of character cannot be expressed in words. She will be greatly missed by her many friends and family.
Mother of three children: Judith S. Fulks, Richard L. and Robert S. Shepherd. Survived by her children, grandchildren, and husband, Richard.
She was a member of the Salt Lake Christian Center and a past member of the Ladies' Literary Club.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2002 at 12:30 p.m. in the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 3401 South Highland Drive (1495 East), where friends may call from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. prior to the services.
A graveside service will follow in the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, conducted by the Salt Lake Christian Center Church.
